Dream about blood

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog where I describe a dream and interpret it.

In this weeks dream the dreamer is walking around barefoot and she steps on a pencil sharpener. The sharpener cuts into her big toe and she has to pull the blade out. She pulls the blade out and blood spurts everywhere, she grabs some paper towels and tries to stop the bleeding but it is too bad. Some of her co-workers are trying to help her and she speaks to her manager but he does not realise how serious the problem is.  She looks down at her toe and it is split in half.

Blood: represents vitality, life and hope, the thing that keeps us alive. Losing blood is a sign that life is flowing away. Menstrual blood is a sign of fertility for a woman but it all depends on the blood.

Walking Barefoot: This can be interpreted in many ways, it could be a symbol of not having money for shoes, or that you are connecting with mother earth, It can also signify changes in you professional life, if the walk was comfortable it will be easy to adapt if not the changes may be painful.

Pencil Sharpener: Pencils in a dreams can mean that a person needs to sharpen their life skills, but a pencil sharpener can also mean that it is time to write something.

Toes: Toes help us to balance and walk, so a problem with toes may mean that it is difficult to create balance in life. An injured toe can mean that there is some damage done to property or your relationships.

Today's dream means that the dreamer is at work and there are many changes that put her off balance. She sees her life flowing away and feels injured, she seeks help but it is ineffective and she knows that she must leave to get out of this situation. She should consider becoming a writer.

Dream Interpretations

I started interpreting dreams when I was a teenager. I always had very detailed dreams and would recount them to my friends. One of my boyfriends bought me a dream dictionary and I started to delve into interpretation. Unfortunately, I found that many dreams had elements that were contradictory and so I did not really get a detailed analysis of my dream.

I realised that different people have different relationships with dream symbols based on experience, their daily lives and culture. A person who keeps snakes will have a different interpretation of a snake dream to a person who has a fear of snakes.

Dreams may have symbols that are said to be good omens and then some that are bad omens, understanding the context of the omens will help you to interpret their true meaning for you.

My blog is a series of dreams and interpretations of the elements in each dream to help you to understand how best to interpret your dreams, I am also available to interpret a dream for you. Email me: mysticpolly@yahoo.com, dream interpretations are free!

I organise the dreams by general subject area rather than alphabetically, if you have a question about a dream symbol please email me.

Tarot Readings!

I started reading tarot cards many years ago when I was in college, I was studying business but my real interest has always been in psychology, astrology, tarot and dreams. I waited a long time to pursue tarot reading professionally. I do not understand how tarot cards work or why they work. I do not believe that you need special powers to read the cards but experience and an understanding of the symbols on each card opens the doors to a successful interpretation.

It is a good idea to be in a quiet place to have a tarot reading, to be able to free your mind of distractions and concentrate on an issue that you would like some insight into. Tarot cards can give you insight into situations and things that are happening around the questioner.

I have been a tarot reader for more than 40 years and will be happy to do a reading for you, the cost is $30 for 30 minutes or $50 per hour.  In UK: £20 for 30 minutes or £35 for 60 minutes. I use PayPal for payment and Skype to complete the reading. Please email me to set this up with your preferred time see below.. Readings are for entertainment only!

Life's Journey's - Finding your inner Artist - Introduction

Fullsizeoutput_ec9I love to paint trees!

This post is for those people, who want to be more creative in life but are not sure how to find an outlet for that creativity. There are so many ways of being creative and so many hobbies where we can exercise our creative muscles, which activities should we choose?  How do you select a creative outlet?

My random list of creative activities - writing and playing music, designing things, art of all types, creative writing, dance, psychic development, cake decorating, candle making. You may have tried some of these things at school, (probably not the psychic development unless you attended Hogwarts) I was lucky enough to have attended a less academic school where I was allowed to be creative and I believe that these creative skills have been valuable throughout my life, giving me the ability to switch off from the mundane and delve into the artistic universe.

This blog will explore some of the ways that you can delve into creativity, it is not about the skills that you develop although it is always nice to be good at something, it is the sheer joy of experimentation and producing something that is uniquely you. It is the lopsided cake, the smudgy art work, the clumsy dancing -who cares? If you enjoy it, keep doing it, feel good and escape from other people's standards and judgements. This is about you, your creativity, your projects, your self expression of what you are truly feeling inside - no imitations!

Life's Journey's - Being Yourself

Much is written about "faking it", "being the best you can be", "putting on a show", "wearing a mask", it is really rather sad that we often feel that being ourselves is somehow inadequate. There are times when we need to "fake it", but this should not be something that we do the majority of the time, if you are in a situation where faking is normal then you probably need to move into something where you can be yourself.

Admit that you are not the best at everything, there is always someone better, smarter, cuter, more intelligent so learn to be happy in your own skin. Be who you are - I say this with the caveat that you must always be good to yourself and to others because that is the recipe for happiness. It's very simple, be good. For some reason being good has become confused with being dumb or naive - you can still be smart and do the right thing.

Getting back to my point about being yourself - appreciate who you are, your unique traits, your unique looks, your personal experiences, there is no-one else like you. Enjoy who you are, be amused at your failings, and thrilled by your successes -they are important to you.

Whatever type of relationship you are in, be yourself, be honest especially if you are getting married - find out who you are and who your partner is -before it gets  complicated. Seriously - take things slowly, passion fizzles.

Below is a link to a poem I wrote about not being labelled, being who you are.

Enjoy!

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Kind Hair Conditioner

This is my blog about living kindly being kind to others, being kind to myself and kind to the environment. I do not always get things right, I am a work in progress but writing this blog helps and reminds me to continue my quest for kindness. Being kind makes me happy!

This week I went shopping at Lush, a new store opened in Mall at Millenia in Orlando so I went to check it out. I have been using Lush products for about the last 5 years. Since the beginning of this year my aim has been to drastically cut down on the number of products that I purchase in plastic containers. Lush has a range of products that are more or less packaging free.

I usually just rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar but I needed some hair conditioner to use after I henna my hair. I was delighted to find that lush has produced some solid hair conditioners that look like bars of soap -I purchased the coconut oil and sea salt bar. I hope that it will work for me. The reviews are mixed :)

Big Conditioner by Lush

Products without plastic!!  There are also solid deodorants, shower gel and shampoo with no plastic containers from Lush.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Blueberry Picking

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. I do not always get everything right but I am a work in progress.

This is the beginning of blueberry season in Florida and we are fortunate enough to have some blueberry growers near to home. To make this even better, these blueberries are organic, which is really important if you are consuming soft fruits with no protective peel to save the fruit from contamination.

It is great to support local growers and it is also enjoyable to spend some time outdoors. This grower, Blue Bayou Farm is located in Yalaha and also sells bootleg liquor, fruit and vegetables and homemade pies. I discovered that the best picking rows, were in the middle and the middle of the row. People usually start from the beginning or the end but rarely in the middle!

I picked several pounds of blueberries and put most of them in the freezer for use on breakfast cereal and smoothies. Perhaps I will even be adventurous and make a blueberry crumble! It's really good with ice cream or hot custard.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Seeking Positive News

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. I do not always get everything right but I am a work in progress.

Since starting this blog, my change in perspective has made me so much happier, I am able to appreciate the small things in life and the big things, like freedom! We are constantly hearing about free speech, freedom to say what we like whether or not it hurts somebody else and it is easy to get caught up in this maelstrom from the media. I have been saddened when I see some of my facebook friends posting things that show they are hurting because of something that they read and took personally. I have been guilty of being a media junky, it is easy to do. The answer is to only read good news stories, because if something is going to effect you personally, there will be enough warning to alert you to any personal danger.

Facebook has been getting bad press recently and probably deservedly but if you have positive people on your news feed, you will have positive reinforcing messages to read every day and did we really think that our information was private and not sued for profit?! I am grateful for all the positive messages and I choose to ignore the nonsense and manipulation.  There are several positive news websites that only report good things. Here are some links:  Good News Network Positive News  Sunny Skyz

Remember, what you resist persists - block from your mind and thoughts all negativity and negative people, listen to stories and read about things that make you feel good and give you reasons to be cheerful. 99.9% of people are good -(not a scientific number) but a good reminder that there is a great deal of good out there and we should learn to trust each other.

Have a wonderful day, you create your reality.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - The Upward and Downward Spiral

This is my blog about living kindly, being kinder to the planet to myself and to others. We have all heard of being in a downward spiral, or spiralling towards, defeat and this week felt a little bit like that. It was as if my old bad habits had resurfaced and taken control again and so I started to realise life is a spiral and the momentum can either be up or down.

When I started writing this blog, I was determined to be a better kinder person this year but this week I felt as though I was taking a vacation from kindness, and then laziness set in, and disappointment and frustration at how easy it is to let old habits resurface. Today, I have put the breaks on the downward spiral, it is a spiral of excuses, of not speaking up, of not offering 100% and of not helping people. It is a spiral of unhappiness that will grow and take root in your soul creating misery. Today, it stops, and the spiral rebounds, it climbs and it conquers, there is more effort in going uphill but the view is much better from the summit.

If I can turn this ship around, then you dear reader can do the same. Eliminate all those things that make you feel uncomfortable inside, be careful with your associations, if you belong to a group that is not doing the right thing, you do not have to join in. Be true to yourself and do better, the easy path downwards is the way to sadness and failure. Have the courage to be different to speak out and volunteer to do the right thing. Be supportive of others even if it makes you unpopular, because your harshest critic is yourself. You must please yourself everyone else in your life is temporary. You will live with yourself and die with yourself.

My advice, if you are on the downward spiral, stop, put the brakes on and be brave. It may be tough to find your way back initially but once you gain momentum you will be so happy that you made the decision to do better, to be better and to succeed.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Natural Coir Doormat

This is my blog about living kindly, being kinder to the environment, to myself and to others. A couple of years ago I bought a doormat, it was a pretty design when it was new and I was pleased with it. One day I picked it up to beat it and it split in half, right down the middle, it has a plastic or rubber backing. I have been determined to buy a new doormat but this time I want one that will last. The stores are full of nice designs but they all have the same type of backing that will break. I love to support my local stores but again had to resort to an online search.

I found a natural coir woven doormat with no offensive backing and ordered it today.  I hope this solves the problem, wipes shoes, looks good and lasts a long time. I will have to wait and see...

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Free Kettle

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. This week my electric kettle stopped working, I was disappointed because I have only had it for a couple of years and as a true Brit I cannot survive for more than a few hours without a hot cuppa tea. Replacing the kettle was urgent and I started to look at different options, the idea of purchasing a plastic free kettle was new to me until I stumbled on a ceramic kettle on Amazon. I usually buy the cheapest option when purchasing household items but in the name of being kind to the planet I was prepared to pay a little more, I am happy that I did, the kettle looks good and feels nice in my hand. Bialetti Kettle no longer on Amazon but worth looking for elsewhere.

The kettle looks good, heats quickly and although it is slightly heavier than my previous plastic kettle it is still easy to pour.

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about losing your purse or handbag

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog where I describe a dream, interpret the elements of the dream to come up with a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream our dreamer arrives home from a trip in a taxi, when she gets to the house she realises that she has left her purse in the taxi. She knows that she needs to retrieve the purse/handbag but she is so anxious to get home that she keeps forgetting about it.

Dream meaning losing your purse - a purse contains all of our important little things, not just money and credit cards, it may contain our make up, cell phone and keys. These are all things that we need to function in our lives. Generally losing a purse or handbag in a dream means that we have lost our identity.

Dream meaning - losing a credit card, this dream means losing your identity.

Dream meaning - losing your make up, this dream means that you are losing the mask of how you appear to the world. This can be positive, you have the confidence to show who you really are, or you may feel exposed by it.

Dream meaning - losing your money in a purse - you have lost your sense of independence.

Dream meaning -losing your keys this dream means that you have lost your way and cannot go back to where you were before, you may need assistance to return to your home or previous position or you may be happy to move on.

In today's dream our dreamer, has lost her handbag/purse and although she is concerned about it, she has other priorities. This lady knows that her identity is changing, perhaps she is deliberately changing, she has just come back from somewhere else. She has taken a taxi which means that she may not have friends in her environment. She feels that she can get her purse later, so her loss of identity is not the most important thing at this time, she is not so concerned about how she appears to others.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Eliminate Plastic Forks

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. The last few months I have been trying to cut down on my use of plastic, especially single use plastic. Yesterday I spent a happy day at Disney Springs and then I had lunch at Burger Fi in Windermere. However there was something that really bothered me and that was plastic forks!

I know that using plastic forks is not a huge issue in the scale of things but if you count polluting our seas and killing all the fish as a problem, which I do think is a problem, then this needs to be addressed now. Yesterday, I enjoyed a gluten free doughnut from Erin McKenna's Bakery,  it was a gorgeous, sweet sticky doughnut which I ate with a one-use plastic fork.

Later in the day I enjoyed a cruelty free burger, vegetarian, at Burger Fi, (you have to ask for no mayonnaise or cheese to ensure that nothing was tortured for your meal), my burger came in a lettuce sandwich, it was gorgeous but so mucky that I had to use a knife and fork. It would be good if these fast food chains used wooden utensils,(they used to be available to eat fries) or even real knives and forks, that would be the ultimate in re-cycling! Anyway I used a plastic knife and fork and disposed of them, it did not feel good.

Today, I went to Target to the camping section and purchased a couple of Sporks! There are from "Light my Fire" and I will carry them in my purse and use them multiple times, at least that is the plan! I wish they were metal but at least they are light. These Sporks are also available in a 4 pack from Amazon.

Next time, I will take a look at take out drink cups.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Positive Visualization

This is my blog about living kindly, being kinder to myself, kinder to the planet and kinder to others.

Today I am more positive, I am more excited, I am more focused, I have more time and I can achieve whatever I set out to do. The reason for this is simple, it is because I believe this. I have everything that I want. I know that whatever I focus on I will create. I have job security, I am good at my job and I am surrounded by positive people. I have a wonderful home in a great, quirky town, I spend quality time with my family. I enjoy being creative, I am fit and I love to dance.

I am going to retire to a cottage near the beach, where I will continue to help people, I enjoy my every day existence, the beauty of nature and the world's infinite possibilities. Life is good.

Why did I spend this time writing this? If you are reading this, then you should write your own list. If you are not sure that everything that I said is true, read "Napoleon Hill, 'Think and Grow Rich' " or watch it on Youtube. There are so many good resources to remind you on the infinite possibilities that are available to you. Youtube has many positive thinkers and the resources are free, you could also go to a local library and borrow the books or have the audio books in the car and lsiten on the way to work.

Positive visualisation, order your perfect future today!

I know that what I am saying is true because I can see it, hear it smell it and believe it!

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about Wolves

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream and interpret each element to produce a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream, the dreamer has an appointment to go and learn how to make wolf noises. She goes to the lesson and finds that it is easy.

Dreaming about wolves, the interpretation will depend on your experience and feelings about wolves. Generally we see wolves a pack animals, loyal and protective to each other and wild and vocal. Wolves are family and community minded and protective, cooperating as a group.

Dream about seeing a lone wolf - this is a dream about independence and breaking away from the pack, your interactions with the wolf will tell you more about the meaning.

Dream about a pack of wolves - if the wolves were living in harmony, this is a sing that you will be living in a community where people look out for each other. If the wolves were fighting - you will face opposition from someone in your community.

Dream about wolves howling -this is a dream about expressing your true feelings and becoming part of the pack.

Dreaming about a mother wolf and her young - you will be feeling protective of those around you who are vulnerable.

Dream meaning -learning how to make wolf noises - this is a dream about being part of a group or learning how to communicate and assimilate with others.

In today's dream the dreamer found that making wolf noises was easy, although the dreamer had to learn how to be part of the group after a quick initiation she was ready. She will quickly learn what needs to be learned and assimilate without any issues.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Free Toothpaste

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others.  One of my goals for this year was to cut down on the amount of plastic that I use.

I found a plastic free toothpaste from Taylors Natural that is pretty good. I have the cinnamon flavor. It is only necessary to use a tiny pea sized amount so the small jar should last a long time.  It is a charcoal based paste so the sink definitely needs a wipe after use unless you clean your teeth in the shower. The flavor is not as fresh as toothpaste in a tube and it is less sweet but less sugar in toothpaste is a good thing. Remembering that using this product is saving many plastic tubes being created makes the small difference in flavor worthwhile.

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about a UFO

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream and interpret each element to produce a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

This is a continuation of the "Drone" dream, the dreamer has attacked and brought down the drone. It is at this point that she realises that the drone contains a small alien being. It is shaken up by her attention to it, she looks overhead and sees an alien craft land on the property and some people come out with stretchers. They are going to take the dreamer and her partner away by force. The alien people explain that they themselves had previously been abducted and it is better to go voluntarily. The people give them 30 minutes to get ready to be abducted they will never be able to return home. The dreamer and her partner spend time trying to decide whether to tell their families that they will be gone for good and wondering what to say.

Dreaming meaning aliens: dreams about aliens are all about being in strange situations where you feel that you do not belong.

Dreaming about being an alien is a sign that you do not fit into your surroundings. You feel out of place or alienated. Perhaps you are living in a foreign country or working in an environment where you feel out of place.

Dreaming about being abducted by aliens is a fear of losing your home or family. You are being taken away from those you love and care about. This can also happen when you marry into a different family or you move house.

Dreaming about people who have become assimilated with aliens -this dream tells you that however strange some people are it is possible to assimilate into an alien group in time. People can join other groups and become confident and comfortable with them and not want to return to life outside of that group. This can be clubs, work groups, family groups or people from other lands.

In today's dream the dreamer, who lives away from people catches an alien on her property. The alien brings in reinforcements in an alien craft. This is telling the dreamer that you are never isolated even if you have space around you, you will interact with others and everyone is connected in a community of some sort. In the dream the dreamer is given the choice to join the aliens and other humans by force or willingly. She decides to join them willingly but then feels really worried about leaving her family behind. The dream is telling her that she has no choice but to join in the new community and it is better to do so willingly, she is losing one family but gaining a new one. The other humans who are in this alien family have settled in and are happy.

In US Time: I am available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 2pm, 3pm, 4pm or 5 pm Eastern Standard Time and Saturday 9 am, 10 am and 11 am EST.

In UK time: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm. Saturday 2 pm, 3pm and 4 pm.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Choosing a Plastic Free Juicer

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others.  One of my goals for this year was to cut down on the amount of plastic that I use. I usually purchase fruit juice in a plastic bottle, I have looked for glass bottles but those juices are very costly. Living in Florida we have plenty of fresh citrus fruits so I decided to purchase a juicer.

I researched different juicers, I wanted a manual juicer and no plastic. There are many juicers out there and having read the reviews, I decided on a large juicer from "Gourmia". It is large and strong and should last me a lifetime. I have had to change my philosophy from the "throwaway" attitude that I previously held.

I ordered the juicer from Amazon Prime and I am excited!

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Compost Benefits

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others. Today, I am writing about compost, this is one of the benefits of recycling. I bought a composter at Home Depot about a year ago and since then I have been composting my fruit, vegetable and tea bag waste. Here is my list of benefits of composting.

  1. Nutrient rich soil - no need to buy potting soil when planting.
  2. Less waste -fewer trips to the trash can - fewer days to put the garbage can onto the street. Less waste at the landfill.
  3. New plants - tomatoes, peppers, avocados, pineapples, red cabbage, onions and lettuce. I have had plants from all of these from my compost. Actually, I did not put the pineapples in the compost first, I just planted the tops.

I highly recommend composting, keep a pot in the kitchen to put in all of the kitchen waste and then take it out to the composter once a day. Add a few leaves to the compost and turn each time you add something.

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about a Helicopter

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream and interpret each element to produce a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream, the dreamer is walking in the neighbourhood, near her home and she sees a helicopter fall out of the sky and crash in front of her.

Helicopter's can have many different dream interpretations based on the type of helicopter and how the dreamer interacted with it.

Dreaming of a private helicopter - is a symbol of ambition and of having lofty dreams, hoping that your ideas will "take off". Helicopters take off and rise quickly so your idea may or may not be realistic.

Dreaming of a military helicopter - if you work with these helicopters then this is a work related dream. If you are traveling in a military helicopter you are possibly moving into unknown or dangerous territory and you are not in control of your destiny.

If a military helicopter is hovering over you in your dream, then you are either being rescued from a dangerous situation or you are in grave danger and need to take actions to ensure your survival. You must interpret this based on your emotions during the dream.

If you saw a news helicopter in your dream then you are in the spotlight and events are happening around you that you may not be able to control.

If you were chased by a police helicopter in your dream, you need to change your current path or there will be serious consequences.

If you saw a helicopter take off in your dream, then your ambitions are likely to be rewarded, especially if you were on board the helicopter.

If you see a helicopter land in your dream, then your lofty ideas are being brought back down to earth and you will need to make a more realistic plan.

To dream of being rescued by a helicopter, this is a fortunate dream, telling you that although your situation looks bad, there are people out there who will help and support you. You will be given an opportunity to start again.

If you saw a helicopter crash in your dream then all of your lofty ideas are about to go up in flames, very suddenly. It is time to take a more realistic view of your future plans and aspirations.

In today's dream the dreamer saw the helicopter crash in her neighbourhood. Dreaming about your neighbourhood is usually a dream about social interactions, it is where your friends live and you spend time being sociable. The helicopter represents dreams and aspirations and the neighbourhood means the area of friendships. This dream is telling the dreamer that her dreams about her social life and interactions are about to be destroyed. She does not cause the problem herself, she is just getting on with her walk or life, but everything falls apart around her very suddenly.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Packaging

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I do not always get it right!

One of my goals in my "year of living kindly' was to be more eco aware and to cut down on the amount of plastic packaging that I use and also incidentally on the number of plastic products that I purchase. We all know by now that the oceans are filling up with plastic, plastic does not bio degrade or it takes 1000 years to break down so our plastic use is not sustainable.

Step one is to use re-useable bags when shopping, I am at about 50% on this one. I wish that the US had a law that makes shops charge for plastic bags like the one in the UK, I know everyone would be more motivated to bring bags along. When I first moved over here there were paper bags at the checkout but everyone preferred plastic, so the stores stopped using paper. Please bring them back!

Step two - look around the home and see which products are packaged in plastic, next time you go shopping, try to buy the products in non plastic containers. I am currently working on this, this week I needed toothpaste, I like natural fluoride free products but there are no toothpastes in my local stores that are not in plastic tubes. I visited one of my favourite websites: My Plastic Free Life for ideas and decided to look online. I found a couple of options on Amazon and ordered Taylors Tooth Powder , it is made from charcoal so I will see if it works for me.

I also needed some dish soap and after researching found that baking soda and vinegar are supposed to work well, baking soda comes in a nice cardboard box but the vinegar I have is in a huge plastic bottle, so next time I will hunt for a glass one. I tried using this yesterday and it seemed to clean well.

Laundry soap - I decided to try something natural and opted for Eco Nuts Soap, I have to wait for this to be delivered but I will update you on how well if works. The Eco Nuts are natural berries that produce soap, you place them in a bag in the washing machine and voila you have soap!

I hope my purchases this week, will work well and become a habit saving the earth from many more plastic bottles and tubes. We can change what manufacturers produce and sell by voting with our dollars and supporting smaller businesses that do care about the environment. If we choose natural packaging with minimal printing, recycled paper, burlap sacks, recycled card or tins, we are making a start. If we choose products that are more natural we are saving our bodies from an onslaught of toxic chemicals.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Competitive Women

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I do not always get it right.

I have noticed that when I hang out with other women who are supposedly my friends they sometimes make really catty remarks. In the past I would have brooded on this for a while and probably bitched about them behind their backs. In my year of being kind, I have decided to take a new approach.

Women see other women as competition, perhaps it is hard wired in our brains from some ancient ancestry, women competing for men, for food, for attention. We have all learned how to flirt, dress up and flutter our eyelashes but at a certain point we have to be much more than this. We need to be strong, self sufficient and intelligent to be successful today.

When a woman sees another woman as successful she usually reacts in one of three ways, she is happy to be around a successful person, she tries to copy the successful person or she competes with them. I recently found happiness by making changes in my life and accepting who I am, I complain less and I feel more confident. I have noticed that some women around me have become competitive, by trying to belittle that things that I do and bolster their own importance.

These women may say random things to make themselves feel better, such as quoting their college GPA, their higher education, the make of their car or their successes at work while demeaning the things that you have achieved, All of the former things are acceptable if the conversation is about education, cars or work but it is weird when you are discussing something else.

How do we cope with these competitive women who make us feel bad?  Realize that they are feeling jealous of you so the best thing you can do is say "thank you'. You may not say it aloud but you should be thankful for all the success and happiness that you have. The other ladies still need to do some work so that they will feel better about themselves. We are all different with different skills and different interests let's celebrate our diversity and enjoy each others company. We cannot change others we can only change the way that we react to competition so let's all be friends and say 'thank you" and appreciate each other.

Living with an Addict - How to Avoid Becoming an Enabler

A recent study quoted in USA Today from the Surgeon General estimated that 1 in 7 people in the US will be suffering from some sort of substance addiction. There are many other types of addiction gambling, sexual addiction and compulsive lying. With this is mind many people who are not addicts themselves will be living with or interacting with an addict. When the addict is a loved one we want to do everything that we can to help them.

Loving an addict can often turn the unsuspecting into an "enabler". If someone we care about is in trouble, needs money or is in danger of losing their job or career, an enabler will go out of their way to protect the addict. It is a natural instinct to protect those that we love. You may be the child of an addict suffering from physical or verbal abuse, afraid to ask your friends to meet your parent, you may be the spouse of an addict fooling yourself into thinking that the sober person who wakes up with you in the morning loves you enough to quit their habit.

As an enabler, you give money to the addict, make excuses for their behaviour, lie to your friends and family and sometimes isolate yourself. You may feel guilty about the addiction and blame yourself for their behaviour and you sacrifice yourself to make them happy.

STOP! Stop enabling, stop giving them money, let them lose their job, let them be embarrassed, let them clean up their own mess. You may think you are being kind by helping them but you are in reality exacerbating the problem and allowing it to go on for longer. The addict may never seek help but if you are enabling the behavior then their addiction becomes acceptable and they are less likely to seek professional assistance.

How do you stop being an enabler? The important thing is to set some rules, ask yourself what you will or will not do for the addict.

Here are some potential rules, it is up to you to decide which ones would work for you.

  1. The addict cleans up their own mess.
  2. You tape or record the addicts worst behaviour to show them later on, this is not a good idea if they are violent.
  3. You avoid conflict with the addict when they are under the influence.
  4. You avoid contact with the addict at times when you know they are exhibiting unsociable behaviour.
  5. If the addict misses work they must call in themselves.
  6. You continue to live your life and socialise with your friends and family even if the addict does not approve.
  7. The addict pays for their own addiction, they do not need money from you.
  8. If the addict asks for professional help, you encourage them to follow through with it.

Remember the best way to be kind to an addict is to not to be too kind.  Do not sacrifice yourself and your own happiness for an addict because you will make their behaviour worse. If you love an addict you will help them to help themselves by doing less for them.

Functioning Not Thriving - How to Recover from a Loss

In life there are many times when things do not go to plan and sometimes we are left feeling sad and unhappy but we still carry on as if everything is fine.  We think we are coping but in reality we are just functioning. There are many behaviours that we exhibit when we are in this state, I have listed a few below.

  1. Self medicating - taking prescription or non-prescription drugs to make ourselves feel better.
  2. Drinking - not necessarily excessive drinking but often daily drinking to help us to relax, sleep or forget.
  3. Inappropriate relationships -getting involved with people who are unavailable emotionally or already married.
  4. Job hopping - changing jobs often, sometimes voluntarily and sometimes not.
  5. Careless personal hygiene.
  6. Watching hours of TV, playing video games excessively causing neglect of other duties.
  7. Gambling that has a negative impact on the quality of life.
  8. Poor eating habits, eating quantities of unhealthy foods, such as bingeing on chocolate.
  9. Finances - poor money management.

I know this is a long list of problems but they can all be experienced after the loss of a loved one, the break up of a relationship, loneliness, isolation or bankruptcy to name a few situations.

If you are exhibiting these behaviours you may feel fine and you may be functioning but somewhere inside there is a person inside you who is hurting. If your goal is to feel better, it is necessary to find a way to gain back control of yourself so that you will feel better. You may not realise that something is wrong but you know that you can do better.

Labyrinth

Life is a labyrinth of roads, some dark and some light. The light roads are the best.

How do you regain control of yourself and your life?

Replace your negative behaviours one by one, with something else. Sometimes it can take a while to be able to do this. It is said that if you get a divorce after 10 years of marriage it will take 5 years to recover, This is a long time but I can say from personal experience that there is some truth in this.

Here is my list of replacement behaviours that will make you feel better.

  1. Sing whenever you can.
  2. Dance -take dance lessons if you need them.
  3. Learn a new skill such as to play an instrument.
  4. Take up art, painting or pottery are good ones to start with.
  5. Take up some form of exercise -yoga is great for mind and body.
  6. Go back to school to learn a new skill or train for a new career.
  7. Take as many vacations as possible.
  8. Learn to cook some new healthy recipes.
  9. Replace the alcohol with some other beverage that is less harmful.
  10. Join a club where you can meet other people with similar interests and ideas.
  11. Find a time each week to work on a budget and savings plan.
  12. Find a life coach to keep you motivated and to pursue your new tasks and goals.

Change may happen slowly but with determination it is possible to turn the situation around and thrive once more.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Natural Hair Dye

This is my blog about being kind, kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I am working on becoming a better person.

At my age, my roots become grey or white every few weeks. I am still at the salt and pepper stage and I do not believe that my hair colour would be flattering if left to it's own devices. This means that every month I dye my hair. I am uncomfortable using chemicals in my hair so I switched to Mehandi.com there are a variety of kits for dyeing hair of all types and colours using ground up plant leaves. The company has expanded it's range and now includes products for African hair.

I originally just used henna on my hair but I found that my hair became darker each time I dyed it. The problem with henna is that once it is on your hair it seems to be impossible to lighten it. If you bleach it, the colour turns orange! I learned to just dye my roots so that the colour does not darken, henna does not fade.

The wonderful thing about natural hair dye is that it makes your hair thick and shiny which is a definite plus. I had been dyeing my hair a vibrant red which gave me red highlights through my grey section but I have switched to a dark blonde mix and I am trying to decide which I prefer. The great thing about hair kits from Mehandi.com is that if you are only dyeing your roots monthly, the kits last for months.

I prepare the dye the day before use because it needs to sit for 6-8 hours. I use a brush to put the dye on my roots. I leave the dye on all night and sleep in a plastic shower cap and head scarf, very glamorous! I then take two baths in the morning to wash the dye out, it is a bit like mud in the hair and very mucky. I then use a conventional conditioner to detangle the hair.

My hair feels soft, shiny and strong!

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Gardening for birds and squirrels

We are almost half was through January and I have not seriously attempted to garden yet. If the temperature is below 60 degrees F I am unlikely to do so. Despite this, I like to feed the birds especially when the weather is cool. I have feeders in the front and back gardens with wild bird seed and black sunflower seed. I have been doing battle with the squirrels who even with a squirrel baffle have gymnastically managed to vault over the baffle to get to the sunflower seed.

There is a squirrels' dray in the tree in the back garden so I am inundated with small squirrels chasing each other from branch to branch. I allow them access to the wild bird seed feeder. Last weekend I decided to be kind and buy a squirrel cake, it cost me about $6 but I thought it would last for about 2 weeks. After only 4 days, I came home to find that the cake holder was on the ground and the cake had been pulled apart, the squirrels had finished everything in less than a week. My kind squirrel budget will not be replenished for weeks!

The art of kind gardening is an evolving process around my home. I want to encourage birds, butterflies and bees and not harm the ground water by using any chemicals. I am happy with my front garden that has a mixture of bamboo clumps surrounded by mulch. This is a low maintenance garden, no mowing, no nasty chemicals and no wasted water. The back garden still has a green area, I am not going to call it a lawn as it is an area of weeds or wild plants that is occasionally mown. I am not happy with this a mowing is not a natural activity and who wants to waste time with that!

I do no want to mulch the back garden because it prevents the wildflowers from growing and these are needed by our pollinators the butterflies and bees. I have tired growing vegetables but so far have managed to harvest one red pepper! I am thinking of letting the green area grow and perhaps adding a mulch pathway or stepping stones so that I can still access all areas of the garden if it gets too wild.

My current plan for kind gardening is to feed the birds, placate the squirrels, let the wildflowers grow and keep the garden natural but accessible.

A Year of Living Kindly - The Kind Woman Blog - Introduction

I haven't always been kind, I have been selfish, self centred and ignored facts that were uncomfortable or inconvenient, this year I want to change all of that. I describe myself as a work in progress, I know that I will not always do the right thing but this year will be an adventure to see which things I can get right. When I talk about being kind, it means a multitude of things, being kind to the planet, taking care of the environment, being kind to animals, being kind and understanding of others, being kind to myself, taking care of my mind and body so that I can be a better happier person.

I made a list of things that I should do to be healthier, happier, more creative and more responsible to future generations who will inherit this planet. Today was a tidy up, preparation day, where I cleaned the house, decluttered some rooms, made a pile of things to give to charity and tidied up the garage.

I decided to make a craft room in the garage, I like painting and dyeing clothes and I keep all of my materials out in the garage. The problem with this is that I rarely venture into the garage because it is cold in winter and too hot in summer, there are also cobwebs and dust. So what does cleaning the garage have to do with being kind? If I can access all of my forgotten art materials perhaps I will be moved to be more creative and dye some old clothes, make some cushion covers or up-cycle some household knick-knacks. This I would classify as being kind to my creative soul.

Step one was to make a pile of stuff for goodwill, a pile of trash and a pile of stuff to keep and organise. I unrolled an old rug, organised some shelves, cleaned off an old desk and made some make shift curtains for one of the windows. To make cheap curtains, I used some old fabric and purchased some shower hooks with clips to attach to the fabric. I then went into the garden and cut a piece of bamboo to use as a curtain rod. There were several nails above the windows so I placed the pole above this and now I have curtains in my garage and it is a lot more cosy and user friendly.

The next step is to actually go into the garage and do some crafting - I might also paint the walls as that is not my favourite shade of green!

I started writing this blog in 2018 since that time, I have moved to England where I continue to seek out ways of protecting the planet. It is now 2020 and we are in lockdown for COVID 19. I am starting to feel a shift in people and more interest in kindness and helping others. I hope to add some new products and ideas to this blog in the future.

Thanks for reading -be kind!

Life's Journeys - Daily Meditation

The first time I experienced meditation was through a yoga class more than 30 years ago. I enjoyed practicing yoga, but the best part was always the calm and relaxing meditation time at the end of class. I would practice a little at home but it was never a habit and I didn't think that meditating was going to be important to me later on.

Over the years, I took classes in psychic development and self hypnosis and was able to refine my practice through guided meditation and classes. I also purchased several CD's to learn more about meditation. I used to get upset with myself for not being able to focus and for thinking about mundane things during practice such as shopping lists but now I am able to control these things with ease. I recognise my thoughts and let them drift away like clouds in the air.

My latest experience of meditation is daily practice, I spend some time sitting cross legged under a pyramid of bamboo sticks. I find that the pyramid gives me energy and adds extra power to my thoughts, it helps me to be more effective. I never thought that meditation would be an important part of my life but it gives me a refined focus and allows me to maintain direction and plan ahead.

When life is not going to plan and you are looking for a way to relax, meditation can be a cure without the side effects of drugs and alcohol. You learn to take control of your life and your thought patterns and find solutions through mindfulness.

You don't always have to have a set direction in life, sometimes life provides you with nice surprises like meditation. You have an amazing mind and infinite power to create your world, experience meditation to enrich your experiences.

Life's Journey's - quitting drinking

I had my first sip of alcohol when I was about 10 years old, my parents subscribed to the theory that introducing children to alcohol young would mean that we would develop a tolerance for it and be less likely to be drunken delinquents. Early on we just drank cider, shandy on Sundays and sherry at Christmas under the watchful eyes of my parents. It still made me feel drunk.

Despite the way it sounds, my parents were strict, at least compared to the parents of my friends, I was not allowed to go to clubs at sixteen or to go on dates with my peers. My reaction was of course to go out drinking anyway, not at night but during the day. I attended at technical college from the age of 16-18 and so was free to attend classes and take breaks between classes. Growing up near the beach meant that there were many bars and so most lunch times I would go out with my friends for a lager and lime.

College of course was a further haze of alcohol and the place where I learned that I could not hold my drink. Alcohol allowed me to be the extrovert and risk taker that lurked somewhere deep inside my small introverted self. I can blame my drinking for numerous dubious situations that I found myself in although fortunately I survived relatively unscathed.

I married a drinker who drank heavily every single night and who regularly became abusive and difficult to deal with. In comparison I was not a heavy drinker and it took me over 20 years to admit that I had married an alcoholic and was actually pretty miserable.

I got divorced but continued to have a drink every night. I still wanted to go out and drink and meet a new man and I still felt that alcohol allowed me to be more sociable. I would fret about drinking and driving laws and blame them for my inability to go out and have fun.

Years passed, I would sit at work and look forward to going home and having a glass of wine,  the highlight of my day. I would fantasise about the condensation on my wine glass and gripping the stem with that first sip of cool white wine.  I was drinking just a couple of bottles of wine a week. However, I started to hear reports about how drinking even moderately could cause dementia in later life and as later life was quickly approaching I decided to quit drinking.

Quitting drinking was easy for me, although I really enjoyed drinking, I didn't think that quitting was permanent, I just stopped buying it and replaced my wine with coffee, tea and sometimes ginger beer. I needed to drink something while watching tv. I feel so much better, less headaches, less dehydration and my interest in hanging out in bars has totally gone away. Why would I want to go to a bar and meet another alcoholic?  Life is a journey, and you can take positive steps to quit drinking, when the time is right for you.

Kind Woman!

People who know me will understand why I have included the exclamation mark in the title. I am definitely a work in progress to becoming wise. What I do have, is a lot of experience. I have worked in many different fields, emigrated twice, been married and divorced once, been a mother twice and I am currently a carer. I am an intuitive person and I like to help people and the planet so some of my blog posts are about that. My latest thought was to develop a 'Carers Anonymous' group but that has not come to fruition yet.

Like most sensitive people I am also very interested in the environment, being kind to the planet and being kind to those around me, you will also find here my kind woman blog, where I attempt to be kind to the planet, to others and to myself.

Life's Journeys - Becoming Vegan

I think if I had been given the choice as a small child, I would always have been vegan. I could never square away the idea in my mind that the yummy meat I was eating came from the killing of a poor defenceless animal. I remember saying to my father how much I liked eating lamb. I watched the pretty little lambs frolicking around in the meadow and somehow, it never tasted the same. I really liked the mint sauce, mint and vinegar that was on the meat, not the meat at all.

Years later I was living in Tunisia and I remember being upset when I saw animals being slaughtered on the edge of the road. My friend pointed out that what we do is much worse, driving terrified animals for miles with no food or drink and then letting them watch while their companions are killed. How is that better?

Firstly I became vegetarian, I could still enjoy eggs and cheese.  I discovered that I was intolerant to milk, it always made my nose run so quitting was a good idea.  I then discovered that even free range chickens have their beaks broken and are exhausted from producing eggs that they are not allowed to hatch.  Dairy cows have young that are not allowed to drink their mothers milk because apparently we need it more. Young males are slaughtered young and females die young exhausted by milk production. I learned this from visiting a rescue farm where animals are saved from slaughter.

Vegan became the only option and whenever I think that I want meat, I just think of the suffering animals and the dead flesh that I would be consuming and allowing to fester in my gut.

Let's face it, most of us don't even like to eat dead flesh we disguise it with smoke flavour, hot sauce, ketchup, salsa, mustard, relish, anything to make it taste good.  Big animals like cows survive on a vegan diet, I think that I can too!

Remember life is a journey and it takes a series of small steps to reach your destination, who knows what is next? Could vegan be for you?

How to Survive an Ugly Boss

Unfortunately, we all have times when we work for someone who is negative. It doesn't matter how well you do your job, they are going to criticise and belittle you. They may be drunk on power, lacking in confidence or just miserable people but you will never please them. They storm over to your desk and you have to drop everything, they demand that you work overtime when it is not necessary and then they try to take over your personal life by demanding extra hours. The days of slavery are over and you do not have to suffer through this abuse.

Many of us are feeling the pinch rising prices and pay checks that do not keep up, billionaires gloating and lording it over us and then you have to deal with this annoying tick bite of a person every day!! You cannot use tweezers to rid yourself of them and ignoring them is probably not the best plan. The answer is to be super organised and to answer them slowly when they make requests of you. They rule by bullying and you are not going to get anywhere by arguing with this person.

Have confidence, you know what you are doing despite the petty put downs and ridiculous games. Take a deep breath and meditate, you can do this. Let this person self combust, whatever their problem is, you are not the cause.

Happy days!
