The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Kind Gardening

IMG_1246

This is my blog about living kindly being kind to the planet, kind to others and kind to myself. It has become a little easier to be kind, I find myself less negative and more inclined to see everything from a different angle and in a more positive light. This makes me feel better about myself, about the world and about those around me.

Gardening in Florida, from my perspective is fun for a couple of months of the year, when it is warm, not cold and definitely not hot! My philosophy on a garden is that is should be a space where we can give back to the flora and fauna of the local area but also be a place that we can enjoy looking at and relaxing in. High maintenance gardens that rely on mowing grass and spraying chemicals are a no-no. In poisoning the insects, we are killing the birds, the butterflies, the bees and contaminating the ground water and poisoning ourselves. Even if you don't care for bugs, poisoning your children and grandchildren seems like a high price to pay for a green weed free lawn.

IMG_1251

My front garden is extremely zen, I inherited it when I purchase the home and have since dug up all of the ratty old grass and replaced it with pine mulch. The pros: it is really easy to maintain, it is different, it is lucky bamboo. The cons: there are no green areas for birds and butterflies.

IMG_1247

The back garden is the opposite to the front garden,  I am trying to create organized chaos, I want a space where birds and bees find plenty to eat, I am growing out an ugly lawn and trying to turn it into a butterfly meadow! I added the stepping stone paths and made borders using planks of cheap wood. I reused some palettes to add some potted plants and I have been busy planting pineapple tops, avocado stones and lettuces. The compost has also been a source of tomato plants and squash! I also spread some wild flower seed that I hope will bring me some more blanket flower. This is a work in progress and I am nervous about keeping everything under control but it feels good to have a kind garden!

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about Stealing Dishes

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream, interpret the elements of the dream and then give a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream the dreamer has returned from a vacation and she finds that two other younger women have moved into her house and have stolen her dishes. She is upset and is preparing to tell the women that they can have the house but not the dishes.

Dream meaning stealing - if you dream that you are stealing from others you are feeling as if you do not have everything that you need to keep you happy and healthy. You may be worried or stressed about something.

Dream meaning about being caught stealing - this is a dream means that you feel that you are getting too much credit for your work, you are earning more praise or money than expected and you feel guilty as the work requires little effort.

Dream meaning stealing food - if you dream that you are stealing food or other life essentials, you are scared that you do not have enough money to get by.

Dream meaning someone stealing from you - in a dream when someone is stealing from you, you feel as if you are being taken for granted or not appreciated for what you do. This can be work related or may be at home. It is a sign that you do not trust those around you to treat you with respect. You may also feel that you are being taken advantage of.

In today's dream the dreamer has her home stolen by two younger girls, this may signify that she is having her home wrecked by one or two younger women. It is possible that the dreamer is going through the change in life and sees the young girls as stealing  her opportunities to create a nice home. She seems to accept that the girls have taken her home but she has drawn a line in the sand about her plates.

Dreaming that someone is stealing your plates may mean that they are taking away your ability to eat in comfort or if the plates were special, they are stealing your memories. These plates symbolize memories in the dream, the girls were able to take the home but not the special plates, the dreamer was going to ask for her plates back but accepted that the home had been taken.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Free Kettle

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. This week my electric kettle stopped working, I was disappointed because I have only had it for a couple of years and as a true Brit I cannot survive for more than a few hours without a hot cuppa tea. Replacing the kettle was urgent and I started to look at different options, the idea of purchasing a plastic free kettle was new to me until I stumbled on a ceramic kettle on Amazon. I usually buy the cheapest option when purchasing household items but in the name of being kind to the planet I was prepared to pay a little more, I am happy that I did, the kettle looks good and feels nice in my hand. Bialetti Kettle no longer on Amazon but worth looking for elsewhere.

The kettle looks good, heats quickly and although it is slightly heavier than my previous plastic kettle it is still easy to pour.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Eliminate Plastic Forks

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. The last few months I have been trying to cut down on my use of plastic, especially single use plastic. Yesterday I spent a happy day at Disney Springs and then I had lunch at Burger Fi in Windermere. However there was something that really bothered me and that was plastic forks!

I know that using plastic forks is not a huge issue in the scale of things but if you count polluting our seas and killing all the fish as a problem, which I do think is a problem, then this needs to be addressed now. Yesterday, I enjoyed a gluten free doughnut from Erin McKenna's Bakery,  it was a gorgeous, sweet sticky doughnut which I ate with a one-use plastic fork.

Later in the day I enjoyed a cruelty free burger, vegetarian, at Burger Fi, (you have to ask for no mayonnaise or cheese to ensure that nothing was tortured for your meal), my burger came in a lettuce sandwich, it was gorgeous but so mucky that I had to use a knife and fork. It would be good if these fast food chains used wooden utensils,(they used to be available to eat fries) or even real knives and forks, that would be the ultimate in re-cycling! Anyway I used a plastic knife and fork and disposed of them, it did not feel good.

Today, I went to Target to the camping section and purchased a couple of Sporks! There are from "Light my Fire" and I will carry them in my purse and use them multiple times, at least that is the plan! I wish they were metal but at least they are light. These Sporks are also available in a 4 pack from Amazon.

Next time, I will take a look at take out drink cups.

Dream Meaning - Dream about Fairground

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream and interpret each element to produce a dream meaning.  Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream, the dreamer is going on a date to the fairground. She is waiting for her date and wondering if she should stay or leave before her date arrives. She does not like fairgrounds, she thinks that they are tacky.

Dream meaning fairground  - dreaming about going to the fair generally means that there are fun times and relaxation ahead. However if you do not like the fairground then you will be forced to do something that other people find fun but it is not exciting to you.

Dream meaning fairground games - dreaming about fairground games usually means that you are taking a small risk with something, you are not expecting to win and even if you do the prize will not change your life.

Dream meaning carousel, tea cup rides, circular rides that do not move anywhere - dreaming about being on a carousel or tea cup type ride means that you will be having fun but not making any advances in your life. You are happy to stay in the same area and enjoy what is on offer. If you watch others on a carousel ride then your life is at a standstill while others are out having fun.

Dreaming of being on a roller coaster - to dream of riding a roller coaster means that you are happy with life's up's and down's, you are having fun and able to cope with uncertainty.

Today's dream, the dreamer is not sure if she wants to go on a date or to meet at the fairground. This means that she has the opportunity to go out and have fun but she is not feeling confident about going out with anyone and she is not sure that this is the kind of fun that she wants. It is possible that she feels that she does not have much in common with the person she is going to meet.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Free Aisle

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others. One of my goals this year was to cut down on the amount of plastic that I consume, so I have been very selective when choosing foods and drinks to purchase. I spend a great deal of time looking for items in glass jars, paper or card and seeking out places to buy loose fruit and vegetables.

I was very excited to read an article in "The Guardian" about a supermarket in Amsterdam, Holland that has a plastic free aisle. It would be wonderful if Publix would do the same thing here.

I also read that Lego is going to use sustainable materials in their products, they are adding some new items now but aim to use all sustainable materials by 2030.

These are small steps but if everyone votes with their dollars, we can make progress in cutting back on the waste and destruction that has been created so far.

The Year of Living Kindly - Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Free Toothpaste

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others.  One of my goals for this year was to cut down on the amount of plastic that I use.

I found a plastic free toothpaste from Taylors Natural that is pretty good. I have the cinnamon flavor. It is only necessary to use a tiny pea sized amount so the small jar should last a long time.  It is a charcoal based paste so the sink definitely needs a wipe after use unless you clean your teeth in the shower. The flavor is not as fresh as toothpaste in a tube and it is less sweet but less sugar in toothpaste is a good thing. Remembering that using this product is saving many plastic tubes being created makes the small difference in flavor worthwhile.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Choosing a Plastic Free Juicer

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, to the planet and to others.  One of my goals for this year was to cut down on the amount of plastic that I use. I usually purchase fruit juice in a plastic bottle, I have looked for glass bottles but those juices are very costly. Living in Florida we have plenty of fresh citrus fruits so I decided to purchase a juicer.

I researched different juicers, I wanted a manual juicer and no plastic. There are many juicers out there and having read the reviews, I decided on a large juicer from "Gourmia". It is large and strong and should last me a lifetime. I have had to change my philosophy from the "throwaway" attitude that I previously held.

I ordered the juicer from Amazon Prime and I am excited!

Dream Meaning - Dreaming about a Helicopter

What does my dream mean?

This is my dream interpretation blog, where I describe a dream and interpret each element to produce a dream meaning. Here is my dream interpretation blog, where I explore dream meanings.

In today's dream, the dreamer is walking in the neighbourhood, near her home and she sees a helicopter fall out of the sky and crash in front of her.

Helicopter's can have many different dream interpretations based on the type of helicopter and how the dreamer interacted with it.

Dreaming of a private helicopter - is a symbol of ambition and of having lofty dreams, hoping that your ideas will "take off". Helicopters take off and rise quickly so your idea may or may not be realistic.

Dreaming of a military helicopter - if you work with these helicopters then this is a work related dream. If you are traveling in a military helicopter you are possibly moving into unknown or dangerous territory and you are not in control of your destiny.

If a military helicopter is hovering over you in your dream, then you are either being rescued from a dangerous situation or you are in grave danger and need to take actions to ensure your survival. You must interpret this based on your emotions during the dream.

If you saw a news helicopter in your dream then you are in the spotlight and events are happening around you that you may not be able to control.

If you were chased by a police helicopter in your dream, you need to change your current path or there will be serious consequences.

If you saw a helicopter take off in your dream, then your ambitions are likely to be rewarded, especially if you were on board the helicopter.

If you see a helicopter land in your dream, then your lofty ideas are being brought back down to earth and you will need to make a more realistic plan.

To dream of being rescued by a helicopter, this is a fortunate dream, telling you that although your situation looks bad, there are people out there who will help and support you. You will be given an opportunity to start again.

If you saw a helicopter crash in your dream then all of your lofty ideas are about to go up in flames, very suddenly. It is time to take a more realistic view of your future plans and aspirations.

In today's dream the dreamer saw the helicopter crash in her neighbourhood. Dreaming about your neighbourhood is usually a dream about social interactions, it is where your friends live and you spend time being sociable. The helicopter represents dreams and aspirations and the neighbourhood means the area of friendships. This dream is telling the dreamer that her dreams about her social life and interactions are about to be destroyed. She does not cause the problem herself, she is just getting on with her walk or life, but everything falls apart around her very suddenly.

Reflection

The truth is a matter of perspective, our intuition will tell us which is the right way to view a situation.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Plastic Packaging

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I do not always get it right!

One of my goals in my "year of living kindly' was to be more eco aware and to cut down on the amount of plastic packaging that I use and also incidentally on the number of plastic products that I purchase. We all know by now that the oceans are filling up with plastic, plastic does not bio degrade or it takes 1000 years to break down so our plastic use is not sustainable.

Step one is to use re-useable bags when shopping, I am at about 50% on this one. I wish that the US had a law that makes shops charge for plastic bags like the one in the UK, I know everyone would be more motivated to bring bags along. When I first moved over here there were paper bags at the checkout but everyone preferred plastic, so the stores stopped using paper. Please bring them back!

Step two - look around the home and see which products are packaged in plastic, next time you go shopping, try to buy the products in non plastic containers. I am currently working on this, this week I needed toothpaste, I like natural fluoride free products but there are no toothpastes in my local stores that are not in plastic tubes. I visited one of my favourite websites: My Plastic Free Life for ideas and decided to look online. I found a couple of options on Amazon and ordered Taylors Tooth Powder , it is made from charcoal so I will see if it works for me.

I also needed some dish soap and after researching found that baking soda and vinegar are supposed to work well, baking soda comes in a nice cardboard box but the vinegar I have is in a huge plastic bottle, so next time I will hunt for a glass one. I tried using this yesterday and it seemed to clean well.

Laundry soap - I decided to try something natural and opted for Eco Nuts Soap, I have to wait for this to be delivered but I will update you on how well if works. The Eco Nuts are natural berries that produce soap, you place them in a bag in the washing machine and voila you have soap!

I hope my purchases this week, will work well and become a habit saving the earth from many more plastic bottles and tubes. We can change what manufacturers produce and sell by voting with our dollars and supporting smaller businesses that do care about the environment. If we choose natural packaging with minimal printing, recycled paper, burlap sacks, recycled card or tins, we are making a start. If we choose products that are more natural we are saving our bodies from an onslaught of toxic chemicals.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Competitive Women

This is my blog about living kindly, being kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I do not always get it right.

I have noticed that when I hang out with other women who are supposedly my friends they sometimes make really catty remarks. In the past I would have brooded on this for a while and probably bitched about them behind their backs. In my year of being kind, I have decided to take a new approach.

Women see other women as competition, perhaps it is hard wired in our brains from some ancient ancestry, women competing for men, for food, for attention. We have all learned how to flirt, dress up and flutter our eyelashes but at a certain point we have to be much more than this. We need to be strong, self sufficient and intelligent to be successful today.

When a woman sees another woman as successful she usually reacts in one of three ways, she is happy to be around a successful person, she tries to copy the successful person or she competes with them. I recently found happiness by making changes in my life and accepting who I am, I complain less and I feel more confident. I have noticed that some women around me have become competitive, by trying to belittle that things that I do and bolster their own importance.

These women may say random things to make themselves feel better, such as quoting their college GPA, their higher education, the make of their car or their successes at work while demeaning the things that you have achieved, All of the former things are acceptable if the conversation is about education, cars or work but it is weird when you are discussing something else.

How do we cope with these competitive women who make us feel bad?  Realize that they are feeling jealous of you so the best thing you can do is say "thank you'. You may not say it aloud but you should be thankful for all the success and happiness that you have. The other ladies still need to do some work so that they will feel better about themselves. We are all different with different skills and different interests let's celebrate our diversity and enjoy each others company. We cannot change others we can only change the way that we react to competition so let's all be friends and say 'thank you" and appreciate each other.

Living with an Addict - How to Avoid Becoming an Enabler

A recent study quoted in USA Today from the Surgeon General estimated that 1 in 7 people in the US will be suffering from some sort of substance addiction. There are many other types of addiction gambling, sexual addiction and compulsive lying. With this is mind many people who are not addicts themselves will be living with or interacting with an addict. When the addict is a loved one we want to do everything that we can to help them.

Loving an addict can often turn the unsuspecting into an "enabler". If someone we care about is in trouble, needs money or is in danger of losing their job or career, an enabler will go out of their way to protect the addict. It is a natural instinct to protect those that we love. You may be the child of an addict suffering from physical or verbal abuse, afraid to ask your friends to meet your parent, you may be the spouse of an addict fooling yourself into thinking that the sober person who wakes up with you in the morning loves you enough to quit their habit.

As an enabler, you give money to the addict, make excuses for their behaviour, lie to your friends and family and sometimes isolate yourself. You may feel guilty about the addiction and blame yourself for their behaviour and you sacrifice yourself to make them happy.

STOP! Stop enabling, stop giving them money, let them lose their job, let them be embarrassed, let them clean up their own mess. You may think you are being kind by helping them but you are in reality exacerbating the problem and allowing it to go on for longer. The addict may never seek help but if you are enabling the behavior then their addiction becomes acceptable and they are less likely to seek professional assistance.

How do you stop being an enabler? The important thing is to set some rules, ask yourself what you will or will not do for the addict.

Here are some potential rules, it is up to you to decide which ones would work for you.

  1. The addict cleans up their own mess.
  2. You tape or record the addicts worst behaviour to show them later on, this is not a good idea if they are violent.
  3. You avoid conflict with the addict when they are under the influence.
  4. You avoid contact with the addict at times when you know they are exhibiting unsociable behaviour.
  5. If the addict misses work they must call in themselves.
  6. You continue to live your life and socialise with your friends and family even if the addict does not approve.
  7. The addict pays for their own addiction, they do not need money from you.
  8. If the addict asks for professional help, you encourage them to follow through with it.

Remember the best way to be kind to an addict is to not to be too kind.  Do not sacrifice yourself and your own happiness for an addict because you will make their behaviour worse. If you love an addict you will help them to help themselves by doing less for them.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Natural Hair Dye

This is my blog about being kind, kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others. Life is a journey and I am working on becoming a better person.

At my age, my roots become grey or white every few weeks. I am still at the salt and pepper stage and I do not believe that my hair colour would be flattering if left to it's own devices. This means that every month I dye my hair. I am uncomfortable using chemicals in my hair so I switched to Mehandi.com there are a variety of kits for dyeing hair of all types and colours using ground up plant leaves. The company has expanded it's range and now includes products for African hair.

I originally just used henna on my hair but I found that my hair became darker each time I dyed it. The problem with henna is that once it is on your hair it seems to be impossible to lighten it. If you bleach it, the colour turns orange! I learned to just dye my roots so that the colour does not darken, henna does not fade.

The wonderful thing about natural hair dye is that it makes your hair thick and shiny which is a definite plus. I had been dyeing my hair a vibrant red which gave me red highlights through my grey section but I have switched to a dark blonde mix and I am trying to decide which I prefer. The great thing about hair kits from Mehandi.com is that if you are only dyeing your roots monthly, the kits last for months.

I prepare the dye the day before use because it needs to sit for 6-8 hours. I use a brush to put the dye on my roots. I leave the dye on all night and sleep in a plastic shower cap and head scarf, very glamorous! I then take two baths in the morning to wash the dye out, it is a bit like mud in the hair and very mucky. I then use a conventional conditioner to detangle the hair.

My hair feels soft, shiny and strong!

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Being Kind When Challenged

My new year resolution was to be kind this year, kind to myself, kind to the planet and kind to others, this is my blog about my journey to become a kind woman.

However kind we think we are, sometimes we will be challenged by the perceptions of others. This happened to me yesterday at work, I cannot go into exact details, but I had been working with a client and I thought that I was giving them excellent service, I was in fact going a few extra yards to help them. Unfortunately some people who were not in possession of the full facts about a situation jumped to a conclusion and dropped my name in the dirt and trampled on me.

At this point I had a choice, I could go into that persons office and explain myself, send off an indignant email or do nothing. What should a kind woman do? Kind does not mean being defenceless but it does mean being smart and thinking of what you will achieve by your actions and how those actions will make you and others feel. This blog is about being kind to yourself and others and the answer to this question no doubt will vary by personality.

I gave this some thought yesterday, if I ran into the office to defend myself, I could look aggressive and threatening and then perhaps a situation would be escalated. I could send out the angry, indignant email that would initially make me feel good, "take that...." but it would make the other person feel bad and would enable me to score points. Why do I want to score points and show the other person up as being ill informed? I realised that I don't need to score points, I know the truth and I did the right thing, I stand by my actions and I feel good!

This is another win for the kind woman but it was a challenge! My advice is to follow your gut feelings, do not go for the immediate rush of winning a battle, in the end kindness and truth will prevail.

Fun Art Projects - Abstract Painting

This is my blog about my fun art projects, the focus is on fun not art! It would be nice if some art happened.

Like many people, I gaze at abstract art and think, I could do that! It looks so simple, colours on a page, no-one can say if it's right or wrong because no-one knows what was intended, except the artist. After my recent foray into the local art shops I was inspired to take out my acrylic paints and have a go.

The first thing I realised was that you have to have some idea in your head, I think, I did not seem to be able to randomly start painting. I picked some colours that I like, mixing purple and turquoise, I wanted peacock but ended up with baby peacock as I had run out of black paint.

Subject, I love trees and nature and I felt that abstract art is better when it looks a little bit like something so I founds some twigs and decided to use those in my art. I painted the background and smeared the edges with a sponge. I was just going to  paint the twig and print it onto the canvas but that didn't work out, it was really scratchy so I painted the twig and this kind of spoiled the whole abstract thing, I then used some leaf prints to give the whole thing a measles effect. I think I need to go back to the drawing board, literally. I like my baby peacock colours though.

The sun shone brightly in a purple sky, while the leaves from the oak spilled softly like measles on the turquoise grass...

Fun Art Project - Eco Speakers

This is my blog about my fun art projects, the focus is on fun not art!

When I was strolling around the local stores on Sunday, I saw some eco cell phone speakers made out of bamboo. They looked simple enough, a slice of bamboo cane with a hole in the top and painted. I have so much bamboo in my garden that I thought I would give it a go. I chose the widest piece of bamboo that I could find and cut a slice. The first thing I learned is that bamboo is not hollow at the knots so I had to cut off another section.

Step two was to cut a hole the size of my cell phone, I did a rough pencil mark and set to making holes in the bamboo and then cutting it with scissors. It took me at least 6 attempts to get the right width and length and the hole looked messy.

Step three- I realised that the cell phone was too heavy and would not stand up in the speaker. I did a quick google and found out that the bamboo needs to be sanded flat to make it stable. Fortunately, I had some sand paper in the garage so I diligently sanded away. I started work in the garage and then sat in the garden which was much more fun.

I sanded until my fingers were burning and the paper was hot, but it made little impression on the bamboo. I would need an electric sander to make this work. I am averse to making purchases for one off projects so I decided to sand the hole I had cut into the speaker and give it a lick of paint.

I used some left over paint from another project to paint the speaker and hung it to dry with a clothes peg. The good news is that the speaker works! The sound from my cell phone is amplified by the speaker. The bad news is that it will not stand up so I have to rest it against something.

What I learned: to make a proper bamboo speaker, you need a really big fat piece of bamboo that can be sanded with an electric sander to get a flat bottom that will stand the weight of your phone. Small speakers still work.

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog -Healthy Food

This is my blog about being kind to the planet, to myself and to others.

On Sunday I went back to the farmer's market in "Vultureville" and this time purchased a juicy looking lettuce and some homemade blueberry acai granola from Lifestyle Treats. I am looking forward to the granola and less excited about lettuce. I then walked over to We're Nuts who have just opened a new location, I had already purchased my nuts for the week so I bought a fresh loaf of french bread.

Vultureville is constantly evolving and a new cafe, recently opened in an older store, the store, "Every Nook and Cranny" has a fresh creative vibe. The cafe offers gluten free and vegan snacks and locally roasted coffee, I enjoyed a delicious almond milk chai with local artist Andrea Lauren. Unfortunately this building was sold and the cafe is now closed.

Back at home with my stomach growling I scanned the internet for a recipe to use my sagging broccoli and spinach left over from last week. I am still training myself to be excited by green veggies! I found a great recipe from "The Flexitarian", Warming Broccoli and Spinach Soup, surprisingly, I had all of the ingredients and proceeded to make soup. The soup came out bright green with added texture of garbanzo beans, it was delicious with the fresh french bread spread with Earth Balance Spread

This week I will attempt to eat healthy foods all week, the holiday chocolates have been consumed and I have avoided the candy aisle at the store. If I am desperate for a treat I have some candied ginger, so let's see how it goes....

The Year of Living Kindly -Kind Woman Blog - Gardening for birds and squirrels

We are almost half was through January and I have not seriously attempted to garden yet. If the temperature is below 60 degrees F I am unlikely to do so. Despite this, I like to feed the birds especially when the weather is cool. I have feeders in the front and back gardens with wild bird seed and black sunflower seed. I have been doing battle with the squirrels who even with a squirrel baffle have gymnastically managed to vault over the baffle to get to the sunflower seed.

There is a squirrels' dray in the tree in the back garden so I am inundated with small squirrels chasing each other from branch to branch. I allow them access to the wild bird seed feeder. Last weekend I decided to be kind and buy a squirrel cake, it cost me about $6 but I thought it would last for about 2 weeks. After only 4 days, I came home to find that the cake holder was on the ground and the cake had been pulled apart, the squirrels had finished everything in less than a week. My kind squirrel budget will not be replenished for weeks!

The art of kind gardening is an evolving process around my home. I want to encourage birds, butterflies and bees and not harm the ground water by using any chemicals. I am happy with my front garden that has a mixture of bamboo clumps surrounded by mulch. This is a low maintenance garden, no mowing, no nasty chemicals and no wasted water. The back garden still has a green area, I am not going to call it a lawn as it is an area of weeds or wild plants that is occasionally mown. I am not happy with this a mowing is not a natural activity and who wants to waste time with that!

I do no want to mulch the back garden because it prevents the wildflowers from growing and these are needed by our pollinators the butterflies and bees. I have tired growing vegetables but so far have managed to harvest one red pepper! I am thinking of letting the green area grow and perhaps adding a mulch pathway or stepping stones so that I can still access all areas of the garden if it gets too wild.

My current plan for kind gardening is to feed the birds, placate the squirrels, let the wildflowers grow and keep the garden natural but accessible.

A Year of Living Kindly - The Kind Woman Blog - Introduction

I haven't always been kind, I have been selfish, self centred and ignored facts that were uncomfortable or inconvenient, this year I want to change all of that. I describe myself as a work in progress, I know that I will not always do the right thing but this year will be an adventure to see which things I can get right. When I talk about being kind, it means a multitude of things, being kind to the planet, taking care of the environment, being kind to animals, being kind and understanding of others, being kind to myself, taking care of my mind and body so that I can be a better happier person.

I made a list of things that I should do to be healthier, happier, more creative and more responsible to future generations who will inherit this planet. Today was a tidy up, preparation day, where I cleaned the house, decluttered some rooms, made a pile of things to give to charity and tidied up the garage.

I decided to make a craft room in the garage, I like painting and dyeing clothes and I keep all of my materials out in the garage. The problem with this is that I rarely venture into the garage because it is cold in winter and too hot in summer, there are also cobwebs and dust. So what does cleaning the garage have to do with being kind? If I can access all of my forgotten art materials perhaps I will be moved to be more creative and dye some old clothes, make some cushion covers or up-cycle some household knick-knacks. This I would classify as being kind to my creative soul.

Step one was to make a pile of stuff for goodwill, a pile of trash and a pile of stuff to keep and organise. I unrolled an old rug, organised some shelves, cleaned off an old desk and made some make shift curtains for one of the windows. To make cheap curtains, I used some old fabric and purchased some shower hooks with clips to attach to the fabric. I then went into the garden and cut a piece of bamboo to use as a curtain rod. There were several nails above the windows so I placed the pole above this and now I have curtains in my garage and it is a lot more cosy and user friendly.

The next step is to actually go into the garage and do some crafting - I might also paint the walls as that is not my favourite shade of green!

I started writing this blog in 2018 since that time, I have moved to England where I continue to seek out ways of protecting the planet. It is now 2020 and we are in lockdown for COVID 19. I am starting to feel a shift in people and more interest in kindness and helping others. I hope to add some new products and ideas to this blog in the future.

Thanks for reading -be kind!

How to be happy!

Go out and watch the sunrise.

The birds have got it right, feet on the earth grounded, and absorbing negative ions. I can't tell you if the birds are happy but looking at them made me feel the joy and beauty of a new day.

The Big Picture

The End or a New Beginning?

Today is September 24th 2017, the day after the world, (according to some)was due to end.  I am not ready to heave a sigh of relief yet, this feels like an apocalyptic time, enormous hurricanes, devastating earthquakes, gigantic volcanoes that are ready to erupt and we have the threat of nuclear war. There are writings in "Revelations" in the bible, stories from the Mayans and astronomical messages from the pyramids of Giza telling us that this is the time of change. A few weeks ago, there was a giant asteroid that narrowly missed the earth and now we have the tale of Niburu the hidden planet that was due to hit earth yesterday, what is going on?

You may take the view that this is just a lot of hot air, there is no global warming, we can abuse the planet to make money with no consequences and that this end of the world talk is just more of millennial type hysteria. What if this is wrong? Who provides us with the information that we listen to? Who is trying to control our thoughts and why? My motivation for writing this is solution based, I love our beautiful planet; we are just guests here.

I have been trying to make sense of what is happening in the world and asking a bunch of questions.

  1. Large hurricanes are caused by warm sea temperatures so why are the seas so warm?

The planet is getting hotter, there is a great deal of scientific evidence to support this, https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2017/04/worrisome-first-quarter-of-2017-climate-trends/

Are we causing the planet to heat up? Carbon dioxide is increasing along with global temperatures, much of the increase in carbon dioxide is due to man's activities on earth. http://www.arcticsystem.no/en/outsideworld/climate/warmer-climate.html

Of course there could be additional outside factors that are causing global warming, it could be cyclical but even so something causes a cycle to happen. In the past solar activity caused the plant to warm and cool but the sun's rays have not become stronger this time around, we have upset the chemistry in the greenhouse and are now suffering the consequences. Solar Activity

Warming seas are also making the ice caps melt, one of the largest icebergs ever broke off antarctic this year: largest iceberg

2. Why do earthquakes and volcanoes often happen together?

We are seeing a large number of earthquakes around the world caused by moving tectonic plates, volcanoes are often also situated on fault lines and so the likelihood of having volcanic eruptions is increasing. There have been many warnings this week around the world about increased volcanic and seismic activity.

We also know that large storms can cause earthquakes, the increased water flow puts stress on the rocks and can cause movement, Storm related earthquakes

3. Do nuclear tests cause earthquakes?

We have heard in the news this week that nuclear testing my have caused an earthquake in North Korea, Nuclear test may have caused an earthquake . My thought is that we should not be surprised by this, every action has a consequence and the planet at this time is under attack from many sides.

4. What else are we doing to cause earthquakes?

We are continuously assaulting the earth, we are fracking and that is increasing the number of earthquakes we are also pumping wastewater into the ground that is also causing a problem. You will read misleading information on this as there is money to be made in fracking. Fracking and Earthquakes

5. Does the position of the planets cause earthquakes and volcanoes?

This is an old theory that has been difficult to prove, the problem is that in past studies the movement of the sun and moon have been studied but not the effects of a combination of planets. One of my theories to explain what is happening with the planet at this time is that the unique planet line up that we have at this moment is causing earthquakes and volcanoes to erupt. This is the planet line up that causes huge problems for the earth as predicted in the bible, by the ancient Egyptians and the Mayans. Astronomical tidal forces and earthquakes

There is also research to suggest that underwater volcanoes do erupt in response to changes in tides and therefore the moon does effect volcanic eruptions as do sea levels. Sea floor eruptions and the tide

6. Why might the sun, moon and stars be lessened by one third?

This information comes from the book of Revelations 8:12. If we are truly in the end times or the new beginning then this is about to happen. The most obvious reason that this would happen would be if there are enormous volcanic eruptions that block out the light of the sun, the moon and the stars. There could also be a planet collision or nuclear war. Revelation 8:12

7. What does Niburu mean?

This is the name of the planet also known as planet X that was supposed to collide with earth on September 23rd 2017. The word means a crossing or a point of transition. It could be an unknown planet crossing our path or a transition to a better or worse time in the world, in our thinking or way of life. NASA has confirmed the existence of planet X but states that there is no evidence that it is going to hit earth. NASA planet X. If you believe in astrology the planet could still effect events on earth such as volcanoes, earthquakes and storms by effecting our atmosphere.

8. Are the poles about to flip?

If the poles flip then north becomes south and south becomes north, or there may be a partial pole flip where the poles move to either side of the equator. The earth's poles have flipped many times in the past, the last full reversal was 780,000 years ago. The magnetic field of the earth is decreasing and this may be a sign that a pole flip is due. If the poles flip there could be mass extinctions, huge volcanoes or the loss of satellites, electricity and increased radiation. The earth's magnetism comes from it's liquid core deep beneath the surface, the way the molten iron centre moves is being monitored but as this event has not happened recently it is difficult to predict when a flip may occur. How a flip in the magnetic poles could effect us.

9. Why do we think that if we damage one part of the earth the whole is not effected?

Everything changes, nothing is constant and things will happen to the earth with or without man's interference, however we can keep the sun shining a little longer, keep the water and the air fresher is we learn to live responsibly and to respect our planet. We need to realise the things that are important in life, love, beauty, kindness and respect and turn our backs on the materialistic greed that has caused so much bitterness, hatred and exploitation.

Think of the earth this way, it is a big stone ball, with a liquid core, covered in beautiful oceans, lush forests and green fields. It floats and spins in a gorgeous blue sky under a blazing sun protected from the sun's radiation. At night the moon shines brightly and the stars glimmer in a cool dark sky. Man trashes the earth with bombs, cars, fracking, chemicals, poisons. How can we truly believe that our actions have no consequences? The evidence is there and it is time to wake up and make a transition, we need to love of our planet and respect each other and all living beings so we can find a way to make this a beautiful place for all people, this is our new beginning....

What does my dream mean?

My mother always said that I had a vivid imagination  - as a little girl, I was always seeing and hearing things that other people were not aware of. I did see things that moved around my room at night, I was scared of the dark and vivid imagination or not, I still believe that some of the things that I saw were "real".

Years and years later, I still see and hear odd things, I have learned to tune in and tune out so that most of the time, I see and hear the same things that everyone else does. It's easier that way. Writing this blog has been a real leap of faith for me and has been many years in the making.

I realise that not everyone thinks the way that I do and that is fine, life would be boring if we were all the same. I have trained with many different teachers in intuitive development which has helped me to interpret the things that I see and hear. I am believe that the brain gives us messages in the form of symbols in our dreams and it is up to us to decipher the deeper message.

Kind Woman!

kind woman blog

People who know me will understand why I have included the exclamation mark in the title. I am definitely a work in progress to becoming wise. What I do have, is a lot of experience. I have worked in many different fields, emigrated twice, been married and divorced once, been a mother twice and I am currently a carer. I am an intuitive person and I like to help people and the planet so some of my blog posts are about that. My latest thought was to develop a 'Carers Anonymous' group but that has not come to fruition yet.

Like most sensitive people I am also very interested in the environment, being kind to the planet and being kind to those around me, you will also find here my kind woman blog, where I attempt to be kind to the planet, to others and to myself.

Finally, I have written a few poems and included some art posts too!

Climb the Mountain

Life as a Mountain

Life is like climbing a mountain;

have to keep going up, up, up

Close to the clouds.

Small rocks  crumble around you,

scatter at your feet

bouncing down the hillside,

a new bed beneath.

Out of breath,  keep going!

Oh so tired,  mind slowing,

Gotta keep your head straight.

Just don't rely on fate.

Unsure of your path, so foggy, got lost?

Where did those sheep come from?

Just keep on going whatever the cost.

Where are you heading?

Is it up or down?

Oh no! Sheep? Where did they come from?

Uncertainty, confusion,

be under no illusion

Just make the weekly promise;

the next will be the best,

whatever stuff that happens

be happy on your quest.

Lessons learned are lessons used,

this is true, there's no excuse,

Keep going, perhaps this is the top?

Keep believing, never time to stop,

Keep viewing,  a better life, guess what?

A better life you got!

Life just got better!

Life Coach - How do you choose a life coach?

We all need help at some time in our lives, finding direction, refocussing on our goals or just working out what we need to do next.  A life coach will come with you on that journey, listening to you, asking you questions and motivating you to take action.

Most life coaches have had some kind of training, there is no official body regulating life coaches, all life coach accreditations are from private businesses.  Choosing a life coach is personal, you should always talk to the coach first to make sure that they are a person that makes you feel good about yourself and ready to take steps to improve your life.

Many life coaches work over the phone; so you want to make sure that you like their voice and find them easy to talk to. If a coach is offering a free session you should take advantage of it to see what benefits you will gain from working with this coach.

Payment is usually with Paypal and the cost of each session and the number of sessions per week can be tailored to your requirements.

Some life coaches are generalists and some specialise in particular areas. I have helped many people to advance in their careers and education, to develop self confidence, to achieve goals and improve health and fitness by creating new habits. The first thing I do is to listen to you, to find out your needs, your strengths and your challenges, I help you to gain self awareness and use a step by step process to encourage you on your path to success.

The first life coaching session is free, I want to make sure that you will benefit from my coaching. In the first session we will discuss your needs and goals in all areas of your life, this will help me get to know you and set up a plan for our future sessions.

Life Coach - Time to set some goals...

You might not have spent the time thinking about what your goals are, there is work, the kids, the chores, when do you have time?  You do have time, when you are driving, when you are shopping, just before you fall asleep, during the commercial breaks on TV, you are thinking all the time.

What do you want? Is it a bigger home? a faster car? Better health? More education? You can have it, but first you have to really want it and then you must believe that you can get it!  The believing is the important point - not just saying it, not just thinking about it but believing it.

So what are your goals? What do you think about? What do you wish for? Can you have it? Do you think you can have it?  If you do then you can make it happen.

I am not talking about waving a magic wand although sometimes it feels just like that, I am talking about actively pursuing your goals.

Your action for today, be aware, what is your mind telling you? What do you want? Just write a few words today, a rough outline, it can be anything, it can be 20 things that you want, financial, physical, emotional, anything that you desire.  Step one - write it down.

Tomorrow we will work with your ideas!  Write them down now, go to sleep tonight and wake up tomorrow with a fresh look at your life, anything is possible for you - make it happen!

Let me help you to live a happier life -life coach Pauline Courchene.
