This blog is all about runes, a brief history of runes but more importantly how to read the runes and use the runes in daily life.

The runes are a magical nordic alphabet, so far I have covered the blank rune, WYRD and the first rune FEHU.

URUZ is the second rune in Freya's eight - there are 24 runes in total and the first eight belong to Freya. Freya was the norse goddess associated with love and fertility. Friday is named after Freya. This rune may tie in with "Strength' in Tarot.

URUZ means wild ox. Oxen are associated with strength, and wildness can mean freedom to roam, untamed, left to wander. If this rune is associated with health then the person will get better in time by using their strength and natural resilience. If this rune is associated with love, it is a strong male energy, pulling in it's own direction. A bit of a wild, independent man.

In business this may symbolize success, or the ability to go it alone, but the pathway will not be easy, it will take strength to succeed and overcome obstacles.

URUZ reversed, this is a sign of failure, physical ill health or weakness. In a relationship the person is succumbing to temptation, there is a lack of willpower. In business too, there is a failing or a weakness to overcome.

Reading the Runes - FEHU

This is my blog about reading the runes where I will write about rune meanings, readings and interpretations. Runes are a magical alphabet and the second rune that I am writing about is FEHU. 

FEHU is a symbol of material possessions, in the past it meant cattle. Cattle were something that you acquired and used to gain greater wealth, so this rune could be seen as an investment or tool to help yourself have future prosperity. It could be seen as success through hard work. This rune could relate to financial investments, to education, to buying tools -anything that helps you to increase wealth.

If FEHU is reversed, it could mean a loss of material possessions, or a loss in love -which is also an investment, or it could mean that success is just delayed. You have to wait for the FEHU to get back onto it's feet!

Reading the Runes - Wyrd

This is my blog about reading and understanding the runes. Let's start on our journey by describing each letter of this magical alphabet, it's weird to start with a non-letter or blank rune, but this is it, WYRD, aptly pronounced weird.

This run is a blank or a void, it is a space, and can be very powerful, it can be seen as the hand of fate or karma, so the meaning of the rune is that the querent will get what is coming to them, or what they deserve. It can bee seen as getting something or nothing, being positive or negative and can be interpreted based on the surrounding runes.

Reading the Runes - What are Runes?

This blog is all about runes, a brief history of runes but more importantly how to read the runes and use the runes in daily life.

The runes are a magical alphabet, a communication tool and a way to invoke higher powers to influence daily life. They probably originated in northern Europe and the alphabet was used by the Germanic tribes, Scandinavians, Nordic people and Anglo Saxons. There are 24 letters in the original Runic alphabet, they are divided into 3 groups, Freya's eight, Hagal's eight and Tiw's eight, these are named after the Scandinavian gods. Freya is the goddess of love, beauty, war and magic, Hagal has little written about him but the word means hail, Tiw is the god of war, law and justice.

The runes can be used to tell fortunes, can be used to cast spells or may be engraved on objects to make them more powerful. I first encountered the runes when I was a teenager and made myself a pack of rune cards, I found it a very effective way of predicting events. Runes were traditionally made of wood and the symbols were carved into the wood, stones and bones could also be used. It is possible to buy runes but to develop a personal relationship with them I recommend creating your own set.

I made a set of runes from wood pieces, using a wood burning tool. Runes do not need to be pretty, they are powerful and ancient and should come from the land.
