Death, forgiveness, compassion and birth.

Meeting the Hierophant at number five

Finding the reason that you are alive.

 

The Hierophant at card number 5 is a traditional, religious man, he is faithful to his belief system, not open to new ideas. He is spiritual and looks to the inner meanings of events around him. This person demands respect, through age and wisdom.

Most books on tarot do not give you many tips on how to interpret the card in different positions. Here are some ideas on how to interpret "The Hierophant' in different positions using the traditional Celtic Cross spread.

Card number one, Present Position:  the questioner is in a spiritual phase, questioning the meaning of life, learning from experience.

Card number two, Immediate Influence:  the questioner is being influenced by someone who is deeply religious, traditional or spiritual

Card Number 3 - Goal or Destiny  - The questioner is hoping to become more spiritual and focussed on the meaning of life or would like to become more religious.

Card number four,  Distant Past Foundation: many years ago, the questioner was religious or traditional or was influenced by a strong person with traditional beliefs

Card number 5, Recent Past Events: the questioner has met someone who is traditional and religious or has recently adopted those values.

Card number 6, Future Influence: the questioner will become more spiritual, traditional or religious or meet someone who has those characteristics.

Card Number 7, The Questioner: the questioner has the characteristics of the hierophant.

Card Number 8, Environmental Factors: there is someone or something in the questioner's life who has the characteristics of the hierphant.

Card Number 9, Inner Emotions: the questioner wants to be more introspective and examine the meaning of life.

Card Number 10: Final Result: the hierophant in this position may mean that the questioner has succeeded in becoming more religious or spiritual.

I started reading tarot cards many years ago when I was in college, I was studying business but my real interest has always been in psychology, astrology, tarot and dreams. I waited a long time to pursue tarot reading professionally. I do not understand how tarot cards work or why they work. I do not believe that you need special powers to read the cards but experience and an understanding of the symbols on each card opens the doors to a successful interpretation.

It is a good idea to be in a quiet place to have a tarot reading, to be able to free your mind of distractions and concentrate on an issue that you would like some insight into. Tarot cards can give you insight into situations and things that are happening around the questioner.

I am the Priestess

Queen of the stillness.

I like to meditate, seek what’s inside

My strong intuition acts as my guide.

With lunar crown and papal robes,

I have no use for normal clothes.

I am a teacher,

I’m very quiet but not asleep,

The priestess is a strong quiet woman, she is smart and intellectual and well read. She may be working in education, she is an introvert and not really interested in fashion. She would rather meditate than go to a wild party. She says what she needs to say when it is needed, she is intuitive and very deep.

Card number 6, Future Influence: the questioner will become more like the priestess or be influenced by someone who has the characteristics of the priestess.

The Fool - from the Rider Tarot Deck

The Fool is the first card in the pack and depicts a young man and his dog setting off on a journey, he is an idealistic young man, a little naive, he is so busy enjoying the view that he doesn't realize that he may be about to fall off the cliff.

They call me the fool ‘cos I’m taking a risk,

I’m walking along; may fall off the cliff.

My dog runs with me, he barks at my feet.

I’m feeling excited, I have what I need.

I’m on an adventure; I’m leaving my home.

I know I’ll be safe wherever I roam.

I packed what I need for my journey today.

I’m happy to leave and be on my way!

Card number four,  Distant Past Foundation: many years ago, the questioner was impulsive and adventurous and todays' events are based on that past.

Card number 5, Recent Past Events: recent travels or escapades are influencing the questioner at this time. 

Card number 6, Future Influence: the questioner will be taking a more youthful, risk taking approach to life or they may meet someone who has those characteristics.

Card Number 7, The Questioner: the questioner has the characteristics of the fool, they may be young, foolish, naive, impulsive or adventurous. 

Card Number 8, Environmental Factors: there is someone or something in the questioner's life that has the characteristics of the fool.

Card Number 9, Inner Emotions: based on the question asked, the reader will need to assess if the questioner is feeling foolish or in fact wants to be more adventurous. The fool can be seen as young and charming or as someone idealistic who does not consider the consequences of their actions.
